§1.5 · The mod menu
When the menu won't open
Three causes cover almost every case: the script is not running, the build is outdated, or the controller is not in A1.
01Purpose
A menu that does not open is almost never a broken Zen. Work down this list in order.
02Checks
| Symptom | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| OLED shows the Gearhead logo | No script running in the selected slot | Pick the yew2K slot with the Zen's button. If it is empty, reload the script — see 1.6. |
| LED is black | Script switched off by the kill switch | Hold PS/Xbox + R2/RT to switch it on. |
| Script name shows but D-pad does nothing | L2/LT released, or controller not in A1 | Keep L2/LT held. Move the controller cable to the front A1 USB port. |
| Menu opens but pages or options look wrong | Outdated build | Re-download from the Generator on yew.gg and recompile in Zen Studio. |
| Logo on screen right after power-up | 1500 ms boot lockout | Wait for the logo to clear, then open the menu. |
03Order of operations
- Confirm the OLED shows the script name.
- Confirm the LED is not black.
- Confirm the controller is in A1, and the console cable is in the rear CONSOLE port.
- Hold L2/LT, then press Options/Menu.
- If it still fails, re-download the build and recompile. Outdated builds are the most common cause after a patch.
04Notes
- Support is on Discord: yew.gg/discord.
- Weekly updates ship through the 2K27 cycle. After a 2K patch, follow 5.3 Patch-day workflow before assuming a mod is broken.
